Know Before You Go

We want your vacation at Destin Gulfgate to be as relaxing and stress free as possible - just as you do. We've outlined some things to plan ahead of time to make your arrival easy and worry free!

RENTAL CARS  If you are arriving by air and plan to rent a car, we highly recommend you reserve in advance. During the busier times of year, rental cars can sell out. Taxis, Uber and Lyft are available at the airport and for getting around Destin. Click here for rental car companies located at Destin-FWB Airport. For information about shuttles, limos and taxis that service VPS, click here.
PROVISIONS Skip crowded grocery stores and order your supplies ahead. Walmart, Whole Foods and Instacart all offer grocery delivery, and Target offers same-day drive-up service. Additionally, Beach Liquors, conveniently located .5 miles from Destin Gulfgate, offers pick-up and delivery services. For an even easier shopping experience, try one of Destin’s premier grocery concierge services. Be My Shopper will not only deliver, they’ll also unload your groceries in your condo before you arrive! Another great local option is Destin Grocery Girls.
AMENITIES Where you stay on vacation is typically just a place to sleep and get ready - but here at Destin Gulfgate, it is so much more than that. With 30-foot private balconies, waking up, drinking a cup of coffee, and watching the sunrise has never sounded better. While you're planning your days, the beach is a MUST. We understand traveling with gear can be tough - to cover one portion of your trip, we offer complimentary beach service (2 chairs + 1 umbrella) for each reservation (excluding November monthly reservations.) We also offer only one row of chairs, ensuring everyone gets a front-row seat to our stunning emerald waters of the Gulf. See all amenities that Destin Gulfgate has to offer here.
TRAVEL INSURANCE Travel protection is an important way to protect your vacation investment against unforseen circumstances that may occur before or during your scheduled trip. Destin Gulfgate partners with InsureStays via Rental Guardian to provide two options for travel insurance - Standard Travel Protection and Cancel For Any Reason Travel Protection. Standard Travel Protection is offered to all U.S. and international travelers and is only available to guests who book online. Cancel For Any Reason Travel Protection is available for those who book online or by phone, but only covers U.S.travelers (excluding NY and WA state.) Beach Flag + Safety in Destin

We want your perfect day on the beach to be filled with plenty of fun, sun, adventure and relaxation. Please pay close attention to the flag warning system throughout the day - even with a sunny sky and gentle winds, currents and surf could still pose dangers. Avoid swiming when red flags are flying and remember knee deep is too deep when yellow or red flags are flying.

  • Double red flags indicate that the water is CLOSED. Life threatening surf and rip currents are present - for your safety, please stay out of the water during these times. Double red flag violations can result in fines.
  • Single red flags indicate high hazard and means high surf and/or currents. Knee deep is too deep.
  • Yellow flags indicate medium hazard and means medium surf and/or currents. Knee deep is too deep.
  • Green flags indicate a low hazard and means calm conditions.
  • Purple flags indicate dangerous marine life present.

Rip Currents

A rip current is a powerful channel of water flowing away from the shore. While they cannot always be spotted, one of the best visual indicators of a rip current is a gap between waves.

  • If caught in a rip current, DO NOT SWIM AGAINST IT. This is commonly an individual's initial instinct.
  • Swim out of the current, them swim at an angle or toward the shore. Always swim parallel to the shore when attempting to swim out of the rip current.
  • If you can't escape, float or calmly tread water.
